This book looks at Bede's life as a youth and contains references which may or may not have taken place. It focuses more on the monastery at Wearmouth, as both it and Jarrow jealously claim Bede as their own.
I think both places were equally important in his life. I have imagined that Bede travelled to Rome. We know that both Abbot Benet and then Ceolfrith
(Bede's contemporaries) made numerous journeys to Rome;
so why not Bede too?
I have examined issues which I feel early medieval Christians would have faced. It also contains some contemporary concerns looked at from an early Christian perspective.
Just like the first book, I have included biblical stories as they become relevant to the individual characters.
Enjoy Bede's adventure abroad.

There is a saying that all roads lead to Rome and, in this story, Bede's journey has this ultimate destination. It is undeniable that Rome has played an integral part in the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. Following its triumph over the Celtic tradition at the Synod of Whitby 664a.d. (when the date of Easter was established) the Roman tradition held sway. That all changed 500 years ago when Martin Luther nailed his ninety five thesis to the door of All Saints Church, Wittenburg to herald the Reformation. Today the Roman Catholic Church is an anathema to many Christian denominations, who believe it to be in error. Nevertheless they do owe their own Christian heritage to this imperfect body. The action in my story takes place in the Pantheon, built on the site of a former Roman temple dedicated to a plethora of gods and now a Christian church. Bede and his party visit Cadiz en route to Rome. I have never been but I presume it must have been a strategic city, bearing in mind its geographical situation. I have imagined it as an exotic melting pot of races and cultures. Once again I am in the realms of what could have happened rather than what actually did!
